Facing life’s toughest stressors takes real courage—seeking therapy is the powerful first step toward reclaiming your strength and well-being.
Many people seek support from a trauma therapist when life becomes overwhelming. This FAQ page answers common questions about managing life stressors, trauma, and the therapeutic process so you can make informed decisions about your mental health care.
Where do we begin?
First things first, pat yourself on the back. You’re off to a great start! Feel free to reach out via the contact page, email me at healingpartstherapy@gmail.com or call at 916-520-3687. We’ll schedule a 15-minute consultation call to help us get to know each other and determine if I’m the right fit for your needs. During the consultation, you can share a little about what’s bringing you to therapy and learn more about my approach. Feel free to ask any questions—it’s an opportunity to explore how we can work together and decide if moving forward with a therapy intake feels right for you.
What’s the first session like?
During the first session, I focus on getting to know you and creating a foundation of trust and comfort. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, so I aim to make this step as supportive and stress-free as possible. You’re in control of what you choose to share—there’s no rush to dive into details until you feel prepared. Together, we’ll build a sense of safety and develop tools to ensure that when you’re ready to explore deeper topics, you’ll feel supported and confident in the process.
How does therapy work?
Therapy is a collaborative process where you and your therapist work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals, focusing on understanding challenges, building skills, and fostering personal growth. The pace is always guided by your comfort level, creating a path toward healing and positive change
How can a trauma therapist help with life stressors?
A trauma therapist can help you identify how life stressors—such as relationship challenges, work pressures, or past emotional wounds—are affecting your mental and physical well-being. Through evidence-based techniques, a trauma therapist supports you in building coping skills, reducing symptoms, and developing healthier responses
What is considered a life stressor?
Life stressors are events or situations that place emotional, mental, or physical pressure on you. These can include everyday challenges as well as major changes or overwhelming experiences. Common life stressors might include:
Relationship conflicts or breakups
Work-related pressure, burnout, or job loss
Financial strain or uncertainty
Moving, relocating, or major life transitions
Traumatic experiences or unresolved past events
Grief, loss, or significant changes in routine
Academic pressure or performance expectations
Social stress, isolation, or changes in support systems
How do I know if I’m a good fit for therapy?
Everyone experiences life differently, and what feels manageable for one person may feel overwhelming for another. When life stressors start to impact your sleep, mood, relationships, or daily functioning, talking with a licensed mental health professional—such as a trauma therapist—can help you understand and navigate these pressures in a healthier way.
How much do you charge for therapy services?
I charge $150 per 50 minute session for therapy. I do provide superbills/invoices, which are documents you can submit to your insurance company for potential partial reimbursement of therapy services.
I accept cash, debit/credit, FSA/HSA cards.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time. Insurance companies tend to require diagnosis for their records after the very first session and limit the therapy by swaying treatment decisions. For that reason, I am an out-of-network provider, but can provide you with an invoice (“Superbill”) for partial reimbursement from your insurance provider. However, coverage from your provider isn’t guaranteed.
What is your cancellation policy?
Since scheduling an appointment involves reserving a time slot specifically for you, cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment will result in a charge of half your session fee. If you cancel after 8:00 AM on your appointment day or don’t show up within 15 minutes of your session time, you’ll be charged the full session fee.
For in-person clients who may be canceling an appointment due to sickness, transportation issues, childcare issues, etc., you can switch your appointment to telehealth at any time to avoid a cancellation charge.
If two cancellations/reschedules or no-shows are ever made within a 60-day time period, I will no longer reserve a specific time slot for you. Future appointments will become first-come-first-served.
If you cancel or no-show an appointment and don’t reschedule within 72 hours, I may release your time slot to a client on the waiting list. You’re welcome to resume therapy when you’re ready to do so, as availability permits.
Good Faith Estimate Notice: Under California law, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” for your medical care costs. Providers must give uninsured or self-paying patients an estimate for medical services. You can request a Good Faith Estimate from your provider before scheduling. If your bill exceeds the estimate by at least $400, you can dispute it. Keep a copy of your estimate for reference. For more information, visit the following California website: No Surprise Act
